The longer the haul, the more it starts to become an endurance test. While more experienced truckers are better at handling the strain of a marathon haul, hours upon hours of riding without pause start to grind on even the best of truckers. The worst part is that the more tired you become, the greater the chances that you’ll make a costly mistake. That’s why Draco Truck & Equipment has created this guide to finding places to rest on the road.

Have a Plan Ahead of Time

The good news is that you’ll almost always know your route ahead of time. This will allow you to plan ahead and familiarize yourself with possible rest stops along the way. Knowing your own limits will help. For example, if you know that you’ll need a rest after about five hours of driving, you can pick out a suitable rest stop that is about five hours into your route. You should also watch for any long stretches on your route without anywhere to stop. It might be best to save your rest for just before you hit these stretches.

Use Your Smartphone to Your Advantage

There are dozens of different smartphone apps designed specifically to help truckers find places on the road equipped to accommodate their rigs. Different apps will have slightly different features, so we recommend downloading a few of them and trying them out until you find one that works for you.

Ask Others for Help

If you’re a less-experienced trucker or you’re unfamiliar with the route, it might be worth it to ask a trucker with more experience than you for some advice. They’ll be able to make recommendations and highlight spots that you would otherwise overlook. In any case, their experience makes these older truckers a great resource, so don’t hesitate to ask them for assistance!
